AMY (due for release July 3rd 2015) gives us an intimate peek (and we’re talking Grey Gardens kind of intimate, not 50 shades) into the life of Britain’s most loved Jazz artists and is an example of the pitfalls that come with stardom. “About two years ago we decided to make a movie about her — her career and her life,” he said. “It’s a very complicated and tender movie. It tackles lots of things about family and media, fame, addiction, but most importantly, it captures the very heart of what she was about, which is an amazing person and a true musical genius.” – A spokesman for Universal Music tells the Daily Mail.
Amy – who died tragically in 2011 from alcohol poisoning had battled with addiction (quite publicly) throughout her career. The film – created by BAFTA-winner Asif Kapadia (the director of Senna) features interviews with her ex-beau Blake Fielder Civil, & Producer Salaam Remi as well as archived footage of Amy Winehouse pre-fame.
