On April 27th 2015 fashionistas of the world will hunger no more – YOOX Group will be releasing a short film on one of the worlds most influential fashion designers: Martin Margiela.
Margiela has maintained an incredibly low profile throughout his career – often refusing to be photographed, remaining backstage at shows and giving interviews (yup he’s not in this one). This film sees director Alison Chernick enlist many of fashion’s biggest names to discuss his influence, some of them handpicked by Margiela:
“He actually gave me a list of people to interview that he thought would be good,” Chernick told the Cut.
The docu-film, directed by Alison Chernick explores the creativity of the Belgian born designer and includes interviews with figures such as Raf Simmons, Jean Paul Gaultier & Suzy Menkes.
Suzy Menkes argues that his isolation from the fashion world only added to his allure.:
“By not showing his identity, I think that Martin Margiela became more exciting, people wondered what he was like – there was a mystery that surrounded him,” she says in the trailer.
