London based designers Marta Marques’ and Paulo Almeida the winning duo behind label Marques Almeida are this years successors to the 2nd annual LMVH Prize fund the global competition for revolutionary young designers, writes After Nyne’s Jordan Victor-Harrison.
The exclusive panel enlists some of the industry’s key influencers such as Dior’s Raf Simons, Celine’s Phoebe Philo, Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld who likened to their Portuguese heritage by mentioning on their win “There is something about Portugal and the Portuguese – a different perspective as though they are seeing something for the first time”
With the label launching just four years ago in 2011 after finishing their MA course under the unique eye of the late Louise Wilson at Central St Martins, the two started off by showing their collections under Lulu Kennedy’s Fashion East and now presently showcase at London Fashion Week.
They managed to sought off other designers in the competition including Craig Green, Arthur Arbesser and Jacquemus who came in second place. With the LMVH Prize consisting of a €300,000 grant and a year of coaching from LMVH executives, expect to see dramatic changes from the label these next few seasons.
