Finally it’s the weekend, and time for five wonderful bands that will hopefully add a little something to your well deserved time off! Don’t forget to share the list and tweet @After_Nyne
Enemies – Play Fire
Formed in 2007, Enemies have spent over seven years writing, recording, and producing their own records together. Having travelled the world with tours in the UK, EU, USA and Asia, selling out shows in Tokyo, New York, Osaka and Nagoya; the band continue to develop their sound, which amongst Irelands many post-rock bands (ASIWYFA, Adebisi Shank, The Redneck Manifesto, and more) remains incredibly distinct.
WOMPS – Live a little less
WOMPS are formed from the ashes of Algernon Doll, featuring Ewan Grant (guitars/vocals), Owen Wicksted (drums) and assorted friends on bass. Drawing on influences from Sleater-Kinney, The Wipers and Cloud Nothings, the band have been picking up support from the likes of NME Online, The Skinny, Clash Magazine, Impose Magazine, Artrocker, Rock Sound, The Herald and BBC Radio 1, as well as building a healthy live audience while touring the UK, USA & Canada.
GHXST – Nowhere
GHXST is a New York based noise grunge trio composed of Shelley X, Chris Wild and Nathan La Guerra. With influences such as the Jesus and Mary Chain, White Zombie, and Sonic Youth, they evoke the rockin’ 90s with a new kind of stylish noise rock, full of killer distortion, bluesy vocals, and heavy drums.
!!! (chk chk chk) – Freedom
!!! recently announced their sixth studio album As If with streams of two new tracks: the R&B tinted House track “Sick Ass Moon” and “Freedom! ’15”, a self-described disco odyssey layered with soulful female vocals. A lyric video for the latter song – starring !!! frontman Nic Offer and the song’s guest vocalists Yolanda Harris Dancy and Taletha Manor – has just been released. Combining punk abandon and tightly-coiled dance music has always been bonded into the band’s DNA. It’s this core that has seen them outlive the mid-2000s ‘indie/dance punk’ tag and has allowed them to consistently grow lyrically and sonically from album to album. As If is their most consummate collection of songs yet.
Walter TV – Surf Metal
Having moved all around Canada and settling nowhere, Walter TV are contemporary nomads. They formed their band in the basements and cottage-like houses of a beach town outside Vancouver. Their true start was in a haunted house on 13 acres of brambles and swampland where the TV would turn on to static. The basement where most of their debut LP Appetite was formed would flood often and had a beetle infestation.
