There’s a new and exciting voice from London (by way of Perth) currently bubbling in the world of pop and her name is Emmi .
Influenced by the likes of Alicia Keys, Kate Bush and Amy Winehouse, Emmi writes big pop songs with soul which have already caught the attention of Taylor Swift who recently tweeted about Emmi’s previous single ‘Sleep On It’ as part of her list of ‘New Songs That Will Make Your Life More Awesome’.
Already claiming songwriting credits for the likes of Neil Davidge of Massive Attack and Little Nikki, Emmi was originally forging a career as a songwriter until a wake up conversation with her mum spurred her on to begin releasing material under her own name. The resulting solo project is a host of epic, story-telling pop tunes, delivered by an ever-distinctive voice, that is as fragile as it is fearless. Her first two singles, ‘My Kinda Swag’ and ‘Sleep on It’ gained attention fast, earning Emmi a feature as one of Hello Giggles “11 Kickass Ladies Poised to Conquer the Music World” along with the likes of Tori Kelly and Lianne Le Havas, not to mention a few spins on Radio 1 to boot.
Emma’s new single ’60 Minutes’, is out now and was written only a few weeks ago. Finding herself with a spare hour at the end of a session, Emmi accepted a light-hearted challenge to write an entire song in 60 minutes. The result, however, is anything but throwaway. Resplendent with soaring strings, catchy synth sounds and a driving four to the floor beat, Emmi says of the track:
“60 Minutes tells the story of the final hour of a relationship. The man has fallen out of love with the girl and he is leaving. She has a secret she is desperate to tell him but she selflessly chooses not to tell it in order to allow him his freedom. It’s about loving someone enough to let them go, no matter what that means for you.”
You can catch Emmi live at The Notting Hill Arts Club on Wednesday 28th October 2015 and Vice House Party @ Old Blue Last on30th October 2015.
