Delphian Gallery presents ‘Seating Arrangement’, by Florence Hutchings, the winner of their Open Call competition earlier this year.
Florence Hutchings is an exciting emerging artist currently undertaking a Painting degree at Slade School of Fine Art. Recently awarded the Lynn Painters Stainers Prize (2016-2019), and included in the upcoming ‘Kaleidoscope: A Decade of New Art’ at The Saatchi Gallery next year, she is known for creating colourfully bold and playful works depicting, tables, chairs, and other interior configurations.
Citing Matisse, the Cobra Group, and Pierre Bonnard as inspirations; Florence Hutchings’ pieces create an environment of loud nostalgia from the everyday. The exhibition presents a documentation of the artist’s continual re-examination of the domestic object and the negative space between. Through repetitive subject matter, the abstracted forms bleed into one another, allowing the viewer to traverse their own interpretations of domesticity.
Delphian Gallery will be showing an exclusive selection of prints, original paintings, and drawings at theprintspace, London from the 7th September – 19th September.
Delphian, meaning ‘obscurely prophetic’ aims to be just that, giving a platform to varying work that is and will become important to people in a way that may not at first be apparent. Art in a broader sense aims to raise questions about our lives and the world around us that sometimes cannot be expressed in other ways.
The team behind the Delphian Gallery moniker are curatorially focused, but are free enough to allow the direction of a show evolve around the artists, rather than the inverse. The exhibitions created have an obscure-yet-defined theme that ties the works together without constricting them in any way. Championing exciting esoteric talent, the three-person team each have a unique skillset of curatorial expertise.
